Description

The DENON AH-D5200 is a closed-back, wired over-ear headphone with 50 mm FreeEdge drivers and zebrawood ear cups. According to Denon, it shares many technologies and parts with the flagship AH-D7200, with differences in the driver diaphragm, magnets, headband and included cable.

Driver

A 50 mm free-edge driver with a neodymium magnet. The diaphragm edge is supported by a roll edge (free-edge design), which Denon links to accurate, bass-rich sound. According to Denon, the drivers are made in Japan.

Housing and Build

The ear cups are made of natural zebrawood, which Denon describes as hard and as giving a clear, detailed sound. The hanger is lightweight aluminum die-cast with a click-stop adjuster marked with a scale. The ear pads use Denon's in-house artificial leather, said to last about twice as long as typical artificial leather, with three-dimensional stitching and shape-memory foam.

Cable

The cable is detachable: 3.0 m, 4N OFC (99.99% oxygen-free copper) conductor with a cloth wrap and machined aluminum plug sleeves. The amplifier-side plug is a 3.5 mm stereo mini plug (a 6.3 mm standard plug adapter is included), and the headphone side uses two 3.5 mm mono mini plugs.
